About

Based in the North East, Alice Dix is an English soprano from Staffordshire. She studied at Leeds Conservatoire and graduated in 2018 with a first class BA honours degree and is currently studying singing with Valerie Reid. 

 

Alice’s operatic engagements have included: Lucy Lockit from The Beggar’s Opera by Benjamin Britten for The Sounds Like This Festival (2017); Emmie from Albert Herring by Benjamin Britten for Leeds Opera Festival (2017); Cathleen from Riders to the Sea by Vaughan Williams for the Leodian Concert Orchestra (2018) and Gianetta from The Gondoliers by Gilbert and Sullivan for York Theatre Royal (2019). 

 

Her oratorio engagements have included Mozart’s Requiem for Guisborough Choral Society (2018);  Haydn’s Mass in Time of War for Darlington Choral Society (2019), the role of the Sorceress from Dido and Aeneas for Ilkley and Otley Choral Society (2019) and Faure's Requiem for Bury Bach Choir (2021). 

 

Since becoming Staffordshire's Young Singer of the Year and a recipient of the Moran and Lavey award for dedication to the arts from Friends of Staffordshire's Young Musicians (FOSYM), Alice has shown a keen interest in education and facilitating outreach programmes. Programmes which Alice has been involved with have included; being a young artist for Leeds Lieder as part of their educational outreach programme, resulting in a performance at Leeds Town Hall (2018). An assistant workshop facilitator for the Pied Piper Project with Emma Johnson with music written by Johnathan Dove, resulting in a performance at Middlesbrough Town Hall (2019) and a lead music practitioner for the SwitchIt project in Hartlepool, supporting young people and enabling them to interact with music; she also completed her PGCE with QTS (2020) in teaching Music. She currently teaches at Richmond School teaching across all year groups including GCSE Music and A-level Music.  

 

Alice was awarded The Conservatoire Prize for BA Music for highest achievement in 2018 with the culmination of her studies resulting in a recital hosted at The Venue in Leeds (2018). She has also had the honour of appearing as a soloist for the world premiere of the song cycle ‘Rapture’ by Kerry Milan (2018) and has featured as a soloist at Middlesbrough Town Hall for their classical cafe series (2019).
